One of the most valuable parts of serving as CMA president is hearing from colleagues across the country on the issues that are top of mind for you and the ideas you have for change. Coming out of yesterday’s Annual General Meeting, we are both reminded of how critically we need to build a more supportive health system and of the power of physicians’ voices in leading the way forward.
As we serve alongside one another in the president role for the next three months, we look forward to creating even more opportunities to amplify your voices. With health care in crisis, we are building on the significant progress made in 2023 and are ready to lead more change to benefit physicians and patients — from funding innovative ways to reduce admin burden to shaping policy on access to care to driving national efforts on health data sharing and workforce planning.
We are inviting physicians and learners to help implement these and other solutions to the problems we face. As a collective force, our impact can be that much greater. We encourage you to stay tuned for opportunities to get involved, including upcoming virtual dialogues on climate change and health, a call for applications for CMA leadership positions at the end of August, and the International Conference on Physician Health this fall.
It has been a year of change, successes and challenges — and we do not expect the pace to slow down. Collaboration will continue to underpin our advocacy; with your input and participation, we will keep making headway toward our common goal of better health and health care in Canada.
